Cowboy fast draw is performed with old-west style single-action six-guns in .45 Colt, with special casings allowing a 209 shotgun primer to propel a wax bullet to around 700 feet per second.
Targets are steel and electronically record hits to within 1/1000 of one second.
Format: Contested “man on man” at 15 feet on 17-inch round targets.
A predetermined number of elimination rounds are fired to determine participants for a “shoot-off” that establishes final placements. This number can vary with the number of participants, but is usually seven.
When: Contests are held on the first Sunday of the month.

Blocker fast draw is shot on 20×40 inch targets. There is no “man on man” competition — each shooter’s goal is the fastest aggregate score possible.
Round Format: Five shots from distances of 6 to 15 feet. A round may be five shots at one distance, or a variety of shots from multiple predetermined distances.
Penalties: Missed shots are penalized at one second per miss.
Match Format: Usually eight index rounds. Total time determines final placement. Final placements are not known until the entire match is completed.
